Research Eindhoven Airport: An Airport with Regional Impact

Eindhoven Airport plays an essential role in the Brainport region. Recent research by Motivaction (2024) among over a thousand respondents shows that many residents appreciate the airport as an economic engine and gateway to international destinations. At the same time, there are points of attention, such as concerns about noise pollution and the awareness of sustainability initiatives.

Support and Regional Impact

A total of 1,108 respondents from the Brainport region between the ages of 18 and 80 participated in an online survey. The questionnaire was distributed over four measurements in March, June, September, and December 2024. A large majority of respondents (81%) consider Eindhoven Airport an important factor for the city and surrounding area. Three-quarters of these residents view the airport positively (75%). This is the highest score in five years. The proximity of the airport is perceived as (very) positive by 54% of the residents, while 8% rate it negatively.

Accessibility and Facilities Well Assessed

Residents are satisfied with the accessibility of Eindhoven Airport and the extent to which the airport facilitates travel. More than half of them give a score of 8 or higher in this regard. The destination offerings and facilities for travelers are also positively appreciated by a majority.

"Besides practical aspects such as accessibility and comfort, Eindhoven Airport is seen as an economic driver," says Jeroen Senster of research agency Motivaction. "According to the respondents, the airport contributes to the attractiveness of the region as a location for businesses and talent, but there are also areas for improvement where further steps can be taken."

Attention to Noise Pollution and Sustainability

Although a small minority of residents (12%) indicate experiencing noise pollution, 29% believe that the airport should take more active measures to reduce disturbance. This underscores the importance of ongoing dialogue with the surrounding area.

Sustainability is another theme where there is room for improvement in awareness. Three out of four residents (73%) find it important that the airport actively pursues sustainability, but 64% say they are not well informed about current efforts.

Future Perspective

"As an airport, we aim to enhance our positive impact and limit negative effects as much as possible," says Roel Hellemons, CEO of Eindhoven Airport. The airport strives for balanced development with a focus on quality, sustainability, and the living environment. Hellemons: "We want to strengthen the region with an airport that connects the region with Europe but is also well connected locally. We continue to focus on communication, collaboration, and a sustainable future."
