'Helping customers and knowing what's going on in the store'

Name: Alba Lansberegn

Position: assistant store manager AH-to-Go Eindhoven Airport

The runners? Alba Lansbergen, assistant store manager of AH-to-Go Eindhoven Airport doesn't have to think long about it. "Syrup waffles, croissants, water and cola." For the still warm croissants, fans even line up at 6 a.m. in the morning. "That's when people are obviously very hungry." Alba enjoys it; she loves the hustle and bustle of the store. "If you like to get busy, you'll be right here."

Alba started at AH-to-Go in July 2022 and has been an assistant store manager since August 2023. The physics student was looking for a job; she had gained experience as an employee at supermarket Jumbo and applied to AH "because working at an airport is special. She climbed at turbo speed to her current position. "Moving fast and taking responsibility is my second nature," she explains of her career move. The assistant store manager is one of 23 employees at AH-to-Go Eindhoven Airport. From baking the sandwiches, unloading the cargo to assisting at the self-scanning checkout, filling the shelves and the freezer; everyone knows their tasks. The AH employees-a mix of students, scholars and regular colleagues-work together like a well-oiled machine. "It's up to me to make sure all my colleagues can do their jobs well," she says.

Alba prefers to be "on the floor"; helping customers and working through at pace. "I like that because then I can see what's happening in the store and respond accordingly," she says.About four employees work in the store per shift and about two thousand paying customers visit the store. And those are really different customers than at a city store, is Alba's belief."We hardly have to deal with aggression which happens a lot in other supermarkets. Passengers and office workers who come here are usually in a good mood. And the mutual atmosphere here and at the airport is nice. "

Alba also has no complaints about lack of variety in her work. After all, everyone performs different tasks in a day. "Fifteen thousand steps in a day we each get there," she says. The assistant store manager puts a daily logistical puzzle in place. She makes sure the employees are ready for it when the freight arrives so it gets to the shelves as quickly as possible, makes sure there is good staffing on the floor and a logical schedule for restocking from the AH logistics warehouse in the terminal."You have to make sure you don't have to go to the warehouse unnecessarily often in a day.Because that's not efficient."But the most important thing, according to Alba, is to make sure that everyone enjoys going to work, feels comfortable on the shop floor and that colleagues know they can come to her with questions and comments.

Alba is happy at the AH at Eindhoven Airport; she is pleased with the recent expansion and new layout of the store."It looks fresh again; the store really has a new look and it needed it."There is also more space and the assortment has been expanded. The coffee machines are now in the store instead of in front of it, which she likes much better."Now we can see what's happening."
