Eindhoven is popular: especially among passengers from London
Nearly 6.8 million passengers (departing and arriving combined) traveled through Eindhoven Airport in 2024. Why and where are they flying? Passengers have various reasons for traveling. The most common travel motives are: vacation/city trip, visiting family or friends, and work-related reasons. Malaga and Budapest, for example, are popular destinations. But it's not always abroad that people travel to. The Eindhoven region itself is also a popular destination for passengers flying through Eindhoven Airport.
Eindhoven Airport is, after Schiphol, the second largest airport in the Netherlands. Eindhoven Airport is connected to around eighty (mainly European) destinations. Many people use Eindhoven Airport to depart, but Eindhoven itself also often turns out to be a destination for travelers from abroad.
Special connection with London
The route between Eindhoven and London is unique. London is the largest city in Western Europe connected to Eindhoven Airport. On this route, a quarter of the passengers travel for business reasons. Nearly thirty percent travel to visit family or friends. The remaining passengers go on city trips or vacations. Interestingly, six out of ten travelers do not depart from Eindhoven but travel from London to Eindhoven. Therefore, more people come to Eindhoven from London via Eindhoven Airport than the other way around.
Working, studying, and seeing loved ones
Many passengers (44 percent) also travel to Eindhoven from Eastern European destinations in countries such as Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, and Albania. These are mainly students, people coming to work in this region, or Eastern Europeans visiting family or friends who have settled here. For example, over six out of ten passengers traveled last year between Krakow, Poland, and Eindhoven to visit family or friends. The route between the Hungarian city of Budapest and Eindhoven is also popular for this reason. Nearly half of the passengers flying between Budapest and Eindhoven did so to visit loved ones. Over a third of the passengers traveling between the Romanian city of Bucharest and Eindhoven have visiting family or friends as their travel motive (36 percent). A third of the passengers on this route travel for vacation or city trips, and an equal percentage travel for work between these two cities.
Southern Europe: vacation and work
Traditionally, we see a lot of travel from Eindhoven Airport to destinations in Southern Europe such as Spain, Portugal, and Italy. About 53 percent of the total number of passengers traveled to Southern Europe in 2024. About 47 percent of the passengers traveling between countries in Southern Europe and Eindhoven traveled to Eindhoven.Vacationing and city visits are common travel motives for trips to Southern Europe, but people also travel for work. For example, 41 percent of passengers on the Eindhoven-Milan route and 28 percent of passengers between Faro and Eindhoven travel for this reason.
