Places to visit in Antalya
Those who want to escape the sun can cool off in one of the city's many landmark buildings. Antalya has an impressive heritage, from mosques, stately homes, city gates, temples, castles and numerous archaeological sites. Various tours also leave from the city, such as a trip to Perge. This was an important port in Roman times, and the remaining ruins include an authentic bathhouse, theatre and a stadium. Antalya's most famous mosque is also the symbol of the city. The 38-metre-high Yilvi Minare Mosque is situated in the old city district of Kaleiçi. This part of the city was once completely surrounded by a city wall. Together with the marina adjoining the district, this area is perfect for a lovely walk through the winding old narrow streets. The marina is also the starting point of many guided tours.
Discover Antalya
Antalya is known as a paradise for swimmers and sunbathers. There are two beaches to choose from. The popular Konyaalti pebble beach is situated west of the city and has a long promenade and a beach park for some entertainment. Guides offering all kinds of boat trips and other excursions will ensure you never need to be bored. Lara, the sandy beach to the east of the city, is quieter. This is where the more luxurious hotels and shops are located for an afternoon of shopping. As the sun slowly sets, it's time to get acquainted with the city life. Shops and restaurants are open until late at night. Your culinary wishes will certainly be met, with restaurants serving a variety of local fish, meat and soup dishes. When going out for dinner, be sure to take your time. The waiters do as well, which is typically Turkish.
